George Sales (1899-1919) of Martham

George is listed on the War Memorial as one of those who gave his life during the First World War.

George was born on 6th November 1899 in Martham as the first child of Henry Sales and Ann(e), nee Brown. He was baptized on 4th February 1900 at St Mary’s. As a baby he was listed with his family in 1901 as living with his parents at Somerton Road, Martham.  He was also with them in 1911 when they all lived at Goose’s Cottages, Cess; he was 11 and at school.

He served in the military in 1919 as Private 14857 with the 10th Royal East Kent & West Kent Yeomanry Battalion, The Buffs East Kent Regiment.

He died from injuries on 8th April 1919 in Norwich Hospital when he was 18 and was buried at St Mary the Virgin graveyard section H, plot E13.
