Robert Stanley Valentine Beane of Martham

Robert is listed on the War Memorial as one of those who gave his life during the Second World War.

Robert was born in 1907 in Wood Dalling, near Aylsham, Norfolk. His parents were Robert Beane & Maud Mary, nee Bargewell.

He was not particularly associated with Martham but his name probably appears on the War Memorial because his parents moved here later in life and are interred at St Mary’s.

When he was four Robert was in the census in 1911 living with his parents at Northall Green, East Dereham. When he was 21, he married Hilda May Babb in 1928 in Farnham, Surrey. They do not appear to have had any children.

He served in the military in 1940 with the Royal Corp of Signals attd II Corp Signals, Royal Norfolk Regiment.  His was Private 5768867.  He died on 30th May 1940 of wounds received in Dunkirk when he was 33. He is commemorated on Dunkirk, France War Memorial column 43 and on the Martham War Memorial. He is also remembered on his parent’s gravestone at St Mary the Virgin graveyard section H, plot L29.
