Thomas & Hannah Welch, nee Deary, of Martham

Thomas Henry Welch and his wife Hannah Maria, nee Deary are buried in plot 17 of the Baptist graveyard at Oak Tree Close. Thomas was born in Finsbury, London in about 1825. He became a tailor and married Hannah in 1856 at Bloomsbury St George, St Giles in the Fields, London. They first appeared in Martham in 1871 when Hannah was living at The Green but Thomas was visiting friends in London. Hannah was born in Martham and had family here so that is probably why they moved out of London. Her brother was John Deary who is also buried in the Baptist graveyard. By 1881 Thomas & Hannah lived on the east side of Black Street and Thomas was a tailor. They had at least five children between 1857 and 1866. One was Millie Deary Welch and another was Frederick Deary Welch and both of them are also buried in the Baptist graveyard. Thomas died on 29th Sept 1884 at Martham and Hannah died on 21st April 1904 by which time she lived in Great Yarmouth.
