Rev. Harry Cecil Kemp (1901-1980).
Vicar of St Mary the Virgin, Martham.

The signature of Rev. Kemp from St Mary the Virgin baptism register of 1959.

Rev. Kemp was the vicar at St Mary the Virgin, Martham from 1954 until 1959.

Harry was born on 7th March 1901 in Norwich where he grew up with his parents Henry Frank Kemp & Agnes Ann, nee Starling and in 1911 they lived at 34 Dover Street, Norwich.

When he was 29, he married Dorothy Jessie Goodrum in Norwich and by 1939 he had become a Baptist Minister of Religion and they lived at 23 Sandringham Avenue, Great Yarmouth.

He must have converted from being a Baptist Minister to the Church of England as the St Mary’s Church registers show that he was fully involved in carrying out almost all the baptisms, marriages and burials at St Mary’s between 1954 and 1959.

Having left Martham Harry & Dorothy moved to Ipswich, Suffolk where he died on 1st October  1980. Agnes re-married in 1984 to Edward Ramsay. She died at Norwich in 1999 aged 91.
