Catherine Ursula Reynard (1847-1890)

Catherine Ursula Reynard was born on 22nd August 1847 at Sunderlandwick Hall, Driffield, Yorkshire. She was baptised on 13th October 1847 at Driffield as the eldest child of Edward Horner Reynard (1810-1883), a very wealthy landowner and his wife Elizabeth, née Mason (1828-1891). When she was 27, she married Charles Compton Rising at St George’s Hanover Square, London on 7th November 1874. At that time Charles was a Royal Navy Captain. They lived at Horsey Hall, Norfolk. She had a son with Charles named Francis Simon Rising (1878-1940).
Catherine was a talented artist and in 1883 exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Society two watercolours called ‘Sketch’ and ‘Gateway, Fountains Hall, Yorkshire’.
Catherine died on 8th December 1890 at Horsey and was buried on 12th at All Saints Church, Horsey where her mother had a stained-glass window placed depicting Catherine at her artist’s easel.
