Herbert is listed on the War Memorial<\/a><\/em> as one of those who gave his life during the First World War.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Herbert was born on 30th<\/sup> September 1888 at Great Ormesby. His parents were James Sims and Alice, nee Read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he was 2, Herbert was listed in the 1891 census living with his parents at Yarmouth Road, Ormesby St Margaret. His father was a market gardener and farmer. Herbert was also in the 1901 census with his parents living at Hemsby Road<\/a><\/em> (probably Gibbet Hill), Martham when he was 12. In 1911 he was still with his parents at Gibbet Hill, Martham and was a market gardener’s labourer probably working with his father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served in the military in 1916 and was a Corporal with the 6th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Formerly 17032 Norfolk Regiment. He was killed on 17th<\/sup> November 1916 in The Balkans aged 29.  He was buried in the Struma Military Cemetery, Greece at plot III, row B, grave 6 and is also commemorated on the War Memorial<\/a><\/em> at St Mary\u2019s<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n
