Ernest David Moore<\/strong> (1887-1918)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ernest is listed on the War Memorial<\/a><\/em> as one of those who gave his life during the First World War.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ernest was born in 1887 at Horstead. His parents were David Moore & Emma, nee Rivett from Hautbois.  He had six siblings and a half brother and a half-sister. His half-brother, Robert Rivett, also died as a result of wounds incurred during the First World War and is commemorated on the War Memorial.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ernest appeared in the 1891 census when he was four living with his mum at his grandparents\u2019 home at Hautbois. When he was 14, he lived with his mother and step-father and worked for a grocer whilst living with his family at Fire Engine Yard, Coltishall.  He had left home by 1911 and was lodging at Yarmouth Road, Filby where he was a farm labourer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He enlisted at Norwich and served in the military with the Royal Army Ordnance Corp as Private 022979.  He was killed on 11th<\/sup> January 1918 whilst serving in the Western European Theatre in France and was buried in Janval Cemetery, Dieppe, Seine-Maritme, France at plot I, row L, grave 4. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I cannot find any real link for him with Martham except that his mother appears to have died here in 1919. None of his family came from, or lived in, Martham but if you can add more please contact me.<\/p>\n\n\n
