William is listed on the War Memorial<\/a><\/em> as one of those who gave his life during the First World War.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Commemorated on Martham War Memorial<\/a><\/em> William was born on 13th<\/sup> November 1896 at Martham. His father was William Gymer and mother was Ann Mary, nee Starkings. He had two siblings and two half-brothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William was baptised on 6th<\/sup> December 1896 at St Mary\u2019s<\/a><\/em> and in 1901 he lived with his parents at Cess, Martham where his father was coal carter. In 1911, by the time he was 14, he still lived at Cess and was an errand boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William joined the army as Private 43219 with the 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment.  He died, aged 19, of wounds received at the Somme on 21st<\/sup> September 1916 and is buried in the British Military cemetery at Grove Town, Meaulte, Somme, France in plot I, row H, section 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
