(1893-1915) <\/a><\/em>about the days leading up to his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">March 2026 &#8211; Two new pages were added about people:-<br><em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=34154\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">William Bushell (1768-1823)<\/a> <\/em>and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=34196\">John Carrier (1748-1826).<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">February 2026 &#8211; Inspired by the page about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=12277\">Flegg Island <\/a><\/em>on this site Hugh Turner undertook his own exploration of the Island and wrote about his adventures. What happened to it? Find out <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=31501\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">HERE.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>June 2025 <\/strong>&#8211; A fascinating account&nbsp;of what St Mary the Virgin was like before its restoration in 1856 was added and you can read it <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/St-Mary-the-Virgin-prior-to-1856-by-E.-S.-Taylor-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here.<\/a><\/em><br>A photo of a bronze 15th century figure of the Madonna was added to the miscellaneous gallery of the Museum, that you can see <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19611#madonna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>May 2025 <\/strong>&#8211; I added a page about the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=30938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Sutfield&#8217;s<\/a><\/em> of Martham who were a prominent family in the village from the 16th to 18th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>January 2025<\/strong> &#8211; Three more Roman finds were made recently in the village and have been added to the &#8216;Museum&#8217; pages. They are a <a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=18308#2ndcent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><em>2nd-century disc brooch<\/em> <\/a>and two coins: one, an <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19188#Antcar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Antoninianus of Carausius<\/a><\/em> and the other, a sestertius of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19188#Empaur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Emper0r Aurelius<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>December 2024<\/strong> &#8211; a page about some of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=5464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Greenacre family of Martham<\/a><\/em> who were shoemakers was updated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>November 2024 &#8211; <\/strong>photos and information about two recent coins finds were added to the Museum collection. One coin was of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19188#Allectus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Allectus<\/a><\/em> who declared himself Emporer of Britain from 293 to 296. The other, very unusual, group was of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19215#folded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">folded medieval coins<\/a><\/em> used to prey for a medical miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>October 2024  <\/strong>&#8211; A new page was added about the history of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=28907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Steam Mill, Back Lane, Martham.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>September 2024 <\/strong>&#8211; A new page about the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=28806\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Dyball family of farmers and millers<\/a><\/em> was added. A new summary page about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=28783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Dungeon Corner on the River Thurne<\/a> was added.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>July &amp; August 2024<\/strong> &#8211; Technical changes were made to improve site speed and access. Photos compacted. Duplicate photos removed. Redundant backup pages deleted. SSL safe site certificate approved on 7th August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>June 2024<\/strong> &#8211; A page was added showing nine <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=26713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">marriage bonds<\/a><\/em> relating to marriages at <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1204\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">St Mary&#8217;s.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>May 2024<\/strong> &#8211; See a new item that could be Martham&#8217;s greatest treasure. The <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=26680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">personal seal of William De Martham, c1085.<\/a><\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>April 2024 <\/strong>&#8211; A page was added about Baden &amp; Brian Buck, market gardeners, of Somerton Road, that includes information about the <a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=26824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Buck family East End Store. <\/a><br>Cementing the village with its Saxon past a stirrup mount of the period AD1000-1100 was found this month and can be seen in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=18318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Farming Section of the Museum.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>March 2024 <\/strong>&#8211; A page was added that tells you all about the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=26180\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Widows Savings Club (1884-1958).<\/a><\/em><br>A range of recent finds were added to the &#8216;Museum&#8217; as follows:<br>A 1st century &#8216;Colchester&#8217; Roman brooch was added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=18308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Jewellery&#8217;<\/a> gallery.<br>A 14th century Jetton of the French King, Charles IV was added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19280\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Foreign Coins&#8217; <\/a><\/em>gallery. <br>A decorative lead chair ; a sword pommel and a bosun&#8217;s whistle were added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Miscellaneous&#8217;<\/a><\/em> gallery.<br>A horse harness plate was added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=18318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Farming&#8217;<\/a><\/em> gallery.<br>A Carausius AE Ant, was added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Roman Coins&#8217;<\/a><\/em> gallery. <br>A groat of Henry VI was added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Medieval Coins&#8217;<\/a><\/em> gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>February 2024 <\/strong>&#8211; A new page was added about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=25763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mill Barn, Hemsby Road.<\/a><\/em><br>A <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19280\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">commemorative medal dated 1757 of Frederick II of Prussia<\/a><\/em>, found in Martham, was added to the Museum collection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>January 2024 <\/strong>&#8211; A new page was added about the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=25397\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Old Bakery, 58 Black Street.<\/a><\/em><br>Also, the page that features the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=3736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">White House <\/a><\/em>was updated with the memories of Rosemary Kelleher, nee Hall, about being evacuated there during the 2nd World War.<br>The Page about the<a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=12396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> <em>Gunton Family<\/em> <\/a>was updated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>December 2023 <\/strong>&#8211; A page was added about the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=25303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Co-op on The Green.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>November 2023<\/strong> &#8211; A major new page was added about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Brickmaking at Martham<\/a><\/em>. Plus in support of this two other pages, one about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24715\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Brickfield Farm<\/a><\/em>, Staithe Road and the other about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Robert Moore Snr., (1790-1874) &amp; Robert Moore Jnr., (1825-1885).<\/a><\/em>  <br>Three finds were made in Martham this month and photos of them have been added to the &#8216;Museum&#8217;. They were  a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">lead weight shaped like a shield<\/a><\/em>; a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19272\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">George I sixpence<\/a><\/em> and a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=18308#saxon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Saxon small long brooch that dates from about 600AD<\/a><\/em> and truly supports Martham being a Saxon village. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>October 2023<\/strong> &#8211; A new page was added called <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8220;A Tribute to Len &amp; Connie Spencer of Martham&#8221;.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>September 2023<\/strong> &#8211; Two new pages were added during September. The first is a major new photo album entitled \u2018Shops, Businesses &amp; Trade\u2019. You can see it by clicking <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">HERE<\/a><\/em>. It has 185 photos many of which you may have seen before but I have tried to connect properties, people and work with each other so that as far as possible the variety of properties are connected with the premises people lived in and\/or worked from.<br>A second addition is the story behind the Debbage Memorial at St Mary the Virgin which you can see <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">HERE<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>August 2023<\/strong> &#8211; A new page was added of those people listed in the<em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=24407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> 1851 Martham census.<\/a><\/em> <br>Improved statistics were added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=362\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">main Census page<\/a><\/em> for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1881 &amp; 1891. <br>Three recent <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Roman coin<\/a><\/em> finds were added to the Museum being  a follis of Constantine I; a denarius of Severus Alexander and a siliqua of Flavious Eugenius.<br>A heraldic pendant was also added to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">miscellaneous Gallery <\/a><\/em>of the Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>July 2023<\/strong> &#8211; A new page was added providing details of Martham <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=23548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Footpath No25 Damgate to the River Thurne.<\/a><\/em><br>A new photograph album was added showing <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=23742\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Farming Back in the Day.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>June 2023<\/strong> &#8211; A new page was added called <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=23438\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">The Yards of Martham<\/a><\/em> providing details of basic dwellings that several hundred people lived in from the mid 19th century until around the 1960&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>May 2023 <\/strong>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=23185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> <em>Fanny Elizabeth Jeary<\/em> (1852-1934)<\/a> came from the well-known family butchers of Martham but grew up and married Rev John Smith and had a famous son called Rev. Edwin Smith. All three were missionaries in Africa. Their story was added this month. <br>Information, statistics and data for the 1841, 1861, 1881 &amp; 1891<em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=362\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> census records <\/a><\/em>has been enhanced and corrections made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>April 2023<\/strong> &#8211; New finds were added to the museum collection included a medieval sword pommel which can be seen in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Miscellaneous Gallery&#8217;<\/a><\/em>. A lovely medieval seal matrix that is in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=19208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&#8216;Seals Gallery&#8217;<\/a><\/em>.
