The allotments were sold for housing in 1971 to Harvey Builders (East Anglia) Ltd. They purchased the whole of the former allotments from the Registrar of the Diocese of Norwich. It had been Ecclesiastical land and the representative of the Church Commissioners for England that signed it over was <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=15897\">Rev. Ronald Cooling<\/a><\/em> who had been the Registrar since July 1955. Harvey Builders paid \u00a310,700 for the whole of the 1.344 acres of land.&nbsp; The deeds refer to School Road as originally being part of White Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, and probably because it was previously Ecclesiastical land, the deeds held by the new freeholders said they could not run a place of amusement, hotel, tavern, inn or public house, nor could they brew liquors at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:51% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-744x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7272 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-744x1024.jpg 744w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-768x1057.jpg 768w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-1116x1536.jpg 1116w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-1488x2048.jpg 1488w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots-1200x1652.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/School-Road-plots.jpg 1395w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 744px) 85vw, 744px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The attached plan shows the plot plus other historical points of interest. Note the clear position of the long lost <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=3473\">Martham House<\/a><\/em>, its entrance off <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=5792\">White Street <\/a><\/em>and its Lodge.&nbsp; The old <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1396\">Church Hall<\/a><\/em> is marked Sunday School plot 249.&nbsp; Plot No259 is the former <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1396\">First School<\/a><\/em> built in 1878\/79 and demolished in 2013. Baileys Nursery area only has <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=371#bellm\">Bell Meadow pond<\/a><\/em> in the corner near the church.&nbsp; What is now Oak Tree Close is only a pit formally a clay quarry (for brickmaking). The Vicarage stables are on what is now <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1204\">St Mary\u2019s Church<\/a><\/em> car park. Thurne Rise does not exist.
