He entered the church and was made a Deacon on 20<sup>th<\/sup> December 1795 at Acle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">1797 was a busy year for him as he married Mary Elizabeth DAY at St George\u2019s, Colegate, Norwich on 18<sup>th<\/sup> April and was ordained a priest on 24<sup>th<\/sup> September at Norwich Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Charles and Mary had a son, called Charles, on 1<sup>st<\/sup> August 1812 at Pulham St Mary where Charles Snr. was a stipendiary curate in 1812\/13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In 1812 he was allotted three plots of land that were marshes in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=6318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Martham Inclosure Award. <\/a><\/em>They were all next to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">River Thurne<\/a><\/em> and were probably let for grazing to produce a small annual income for him. In addition, the Award mentions that he owned a freehold house to the north of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Village Green <\/a><\/em>that is now known as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=4939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Brooklyn House<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" src=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brooklyn-House-Jan-2018-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brooklyn-House-Jan-2018-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brooklyn-House-Jan-2018-768x581.jpg 768w, https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brooklyn-House-Jan-2018.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Brooklyn House, 2018<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">1841<\/a><\/em> Charles and his wife still lived at the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Green<\/a><\/em>, Martham. He was a Clerk in Holy Orders at Repps. He appeared in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=5428\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Martham Electoral Register<\/a><\/em> of 1846 listed as living at <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">which again would have been at <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=4939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Brooklyn House<\/a><\/em> and he was still the Vicar at Repps cum Bastwick. He was therefore associated with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=4939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Brooklyn House<\/a><\/em> for over 34 years and it is more than likely that he had it built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">By 1851 Charles &amp; Mary had moved to Litcham in Norfolk where he was the Rector at the Parish Church of All Saints. They were not there long as they retired to Lambeth in London where Mary died in 1854 and Charles died the following year on 26<sup>th<\/sup> July 1855.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Their son, Charles, also became a clergyman. Born on 1st August 1812 at Pulham St Mary he became an antiquary as well as a clergyman. He published books on brasses, arms and armour and heraldry, often illustrated by his own drawings. Boutell Jnr. was at one time curate of Sandridge, Kent. He was the secretary of the St. Albans Architectural Society, founded in 1845; and was one of the founders in 1855 of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society. During the first forty years of the Surrey Archaeological Society, Boutell appeared regularly as lecturer at the Society&#8217;s annual excursions.
