Dockwra was born in 1676 at Cherry Hinton, Cambridge where he was baptised on 12<sup>th<\/sup> September that year. His parents were Ralph Dockwra &amp; Anne, nee Peachy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Thomas achieved his B.A. at Peterhouse College, Cambridge and was ordained as a deacon on 18<sup>th<\/sup> September 1697 at Norwich Cathedral Church. He was ordained as a priest on 25<sup>th<\/sup> May 1700, also at Norwich and became a Reader at St Nicholas Church, Great Yarmouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He was employed as a schoolmaster at Gorleston Grammar School on 14<sup>th<\/sup> September 1706 and as a curate and schoolmaster at Oulton, Suffolk at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He became a curate covering both Hemsby and Martham on 5<sup>th<\/sup> October 1716 and continued in that role until 1718 when on 19<sup>th<\/sup> April that year he was appointed as the Rector at Clippesby, Norfolk.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/St-Peters-Church-Clippesby-1820.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15965\" width=\"331\" height=\"186\"\/><figcaption>Drawing of St Peter, Clippesby c1820<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Thomas died on 27<sup>th<\/sup> August 1719 at Clippesby and was buried in the chancel at <em><a href=\"https:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1204\">St Mary the Virgin<\/a><\/em>, Martham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Sources: Appointment information courtesy of the: Clergy of the Church of England Database at https:\/\/theclergydatabase.org.uk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a class=\"maxbutton-22 maxbutton maxbutton-back-to-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=369\"><span class='mb-text'>Back to People<\/span><\/a>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rev.
