Rev. James Savage<\/strong>, Vicar of St Mary the Virgin, Martham<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Savage was employed as the vicar of St Mary the Virgin<\/a><\/em> between 1728\u20131758 and is included in the Electoral Register<\/a><\/em> of 1734 for Martham as being entitled to vote and recorded as being a Clerk in Holy Orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sequestrator of the Bishop\u2019s office takes charge of parish matters between appointments of vicars. In 1758 the Cathedral of Norwich sequestrator William Adams noted that; when Rev. Savage died no parish registers could be found. So the Martham records only start from the date of his death on 26th October 1758. As a result, from 1728 to 1758 there are no baptism and burial registers (but some marriages from 1754 exist). Ironically, there is a record of his burial kept by his successor which is shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to another entry in the burials register made after the death of his successor Rev. Thomas Bowman<\/a><\/em>, James Savage was buried in the chancel of St Mary\u2019s<\/a><\/em> near Thomas Bowman<\/a><\/em>. A copy of the register entry is shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n
