Edmund is listed on the War Memorial <\/a><\/em>as one of those who gave his life during the First World War.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Edmund was born on 9th<\/sup> December 1897 in Martham and was the seventh child of Edmund Nichols & Julia Ann, nee Gallant. He had fourteen siblings, namely: Emma May, James Edward, William Samuel, Alice Maud Mary, George Edmund, Charles, Benjamin, Rose Ann Gertrude, Dorothy, Albert, Julia, Thomas George, Ruth and Harry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edmund was three when he was listed in the 1901 census when living with his family at Clark Farm House, Staithe Road<\/a><\/em>. He was 13 when he was listed in the 1911 census and his family lived at Moregrove<\/a><\/em>. His father was a successful farmer living at both properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edmund served in the military in 1916 in France and Flanders with the 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment having enlisted at Norwich. His military serial number was Private 15663. He was killed in action at France & Flanders on 12th August 1916 when only 18 years of age. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France on pier & face 1c and 1d. He is also remembered, with his brother, on a gravestone at St Mary the Virgin, graveyard<\/a><\/em> section H, plot H32 as well as the War Memorial.<\/a><\/em>    <\/p>\n\n\n
