Both his parents and grandmother lived at Pippins Yard and he lived with his grandmother there in 1901.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">John married Lillie Maud Woolston at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=1204\">St Mary\u2019s<\/a><\/em> on 23<sup>rd<\/sup> June 1908. Lillie was normally known as Lilian. They had two children:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ruby Grace, who was born on 15<sup>th<\/sup> November 1909, &amp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>John Frederick, who was born on 13<sup>th<\/sup> September 1911.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">According to the 1911 census they lived at Cess where John was a farm labourer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">John enlisted in the Army at Norwich, joining the 2nd Battalion Norfolk Regiment as Private 18711. He was killed in action on 22<sup>nd<\/sup> April 1916 in Basra, Iraq when he was 35 and has no known grave. He is commemorated on panel 10 of the Basra Memorial, Iraq, as well as <em><a href=\"http:\/\/marthamnorfolk.co.uk\/?page_id=7415\">Martham War Memorial<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">The Basra Memorial is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission memorial near Zubayr, Iraq.
