Anthony William Crisp<\/strong> (1860-1931) of Martham<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Anthony William Crisp was born on 7th<\/sup> January 1860 in Martham and was the son of the village doctor Anthony Crisp<\/a><\/em> and his wife Rebecca, nee Manship. Anthony had nine siblings and grew up in a busy household at The Jasmines<\/a><\/em>, Staithe Road which doubled as the family home and doctor\u2019s surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n

He lived at The Jasmines <\/a><\/em>for most of his life and according to the 1881 census he was the Census Enumerator for District 2 of Martham which covered the west end of the village where he lived. He did the same job during the 1891 census<\/a><\/em> but for the whole village. It seems he also assisted his father in his work as the doctor.  He was elected as a Councillor representing Martham on the East & West Flegg Rural District Council in 1897 and in the same year was employed as a chemist which was almost certainly with his father .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his father died in 1900 he took over as the local registrar of births, marriages and deaths and later in the same year he married Charlotte Septima Crisp, nee Herring on 22nd<\/sup> July 1916 at All Saints, West Dulwich. This was rather late in life but Charlotte had been married before and was the widow of, amazingly, William Anthony Crisp (1833-1908) who was not related to the Martham Crisp\u2019s but was a printer and stationer from Great Yarmouth. Below is a copy of their marriage record showing Charlotte as a widow.<\/p>\n\n\n

Anthony and Charlotte moved to The Poplars in Repps Road<\/a><\/em> where he died on 19th<\/sup> May 1931. He was buried at St Mary\u2019s <\/a><\/em>graveyard section H, plot J1. Charlotte died on 18th<\/sup> May 1950 and was buried in the same plot.<\/p>\n\n\n
